ABOUT THE "CIRCLE"
Populism is dynamically and unexpectedly back on the agenda. The “Populism Study Circle” is an initiative of students in the School of Political Sciences (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), which seeks to study the notion of “populism”. The aim of the “Study Circle” is to analyze the phenomenon of “populism” through a comparative approach, and its effects on the quality of democracy. The "Study Circle" is under the auspices of “POPULISMUS” Observatory and School of Political Sciences of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and will have regular meetings in order to develop a productive dialogue around these issues.

ANTONIS GALANOPOULOS
PhD Candidate in the School of Political Sciences (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki). BA in Psychology (AUTH) and MA in Political Theory and Philosophy (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki). He was a scholarship holder of HFRI and GSRT. His research focuses on the study of antipopulism in Greece and the normative discourse during the Greek crisis. His main research field is the discourse theory.
GRIGORIS MARKOU
Postdoctoral researcher in the School of Political Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. BA in History and Ethnology (Democritus University of Thrace) and MA in Political Analysis (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki). PhD in Political Sciences (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki). He was a scholarship holder of HFRI and GSRT. Research interests: Argentine and Greek Politics, Discourse Analysis, Populism, Democracy, Radicalism and Extremism.
THOMAS SIOMOS
Postdoctoral researcher in the School of Political Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. PhD in Political Science and MA in Political Analysis (Aristotle University Thessaloniki). He has been Project and Developing Manager for the POPULISMUS Observatory on Populist Discourse and Democracy and remains web administrator and active member of the POPULISMUS research team. He worked (for almost 30 years) as journalist for nationwide newspaper, public radio and public TV. His interests are focusing to the role and importance of the communication and media in discourses such as populist. His research interests are discourse analysis, comparative approach between new and traditional media, mediatization, postdemocracy, political communication, cybernetics and systemic theory, Ontology of the New Technologies, post humanism etc. At the moment he is Developing Team Leader for a project funded by Google Digital News Initiative.
MEMBERS
DHIONISIOS GURI
PhD Candidate in the School of Political Science at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He graduated with honors from the School of Political Sciences of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and holds a master's degree with honors in Political History and Strategic Studies from the same school. The subject of his thesis is the discourse analysis in contemporary facts that affected the relations between Greece and Albania, and the formation of political identities. He is bilingual. He has worked in the Greek public sector and has attended courses as a scholarship holder at an Albanian university. He is a student at ASPAITE / EPPAIK for the acquisition of teaching competence.
SPYROS LANDRITSIS
PhD Candidate in the School of Political Science at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The title of his research: "Populism and Democracy in Greece: The centre-left and left political discourse in the period of 1961-1967". Research interests: Populism, Nationalism, Demcracy, Political History and Political Parties.
PANAYOTIS TRITSIBIDAS
PhD Candidate in the School of Political Science at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and scholarship holder of ELIDEK. He holds a MA in Political Theory and Philosophy from the same university and a BA in Economics and International Relations from the University of Southern California. The subject of his PhD thesis is the relationship between populism and social policy and its political - and biopolitical - extensions. His main research field is the history of ideas and modern political theory.
CHRISTOS CHIOU
MA from the School of Political Sciences (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki) and the School of Economics (University of Ioannina). His main interests include the history of ideas, geopolitics and the study of the political consequences of economic crises.
